The Birth of Biomechanics

Many texts of Biomechanics begin with a brief historical introduction. In it, a lot of people who influenced its development are mentioned. According what Humphrey and Delange expressed in a very good book on Biomechanics, "it is not possible to identify a true father of biomechanics” [1]. Contrary to this position, we consider that it is possible to give this distinction to the Austrian physician Moriz Benedikt (1835-1920). In this short paper, we show why.
